NO SCHOOL Monday January 15. Monday is the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. On this holiday, consider following Dr. King’s example by doing service for others with your family. Here are some ideas:
- Make “caring cards” for seniors living at the Midvale Senior Center and deliver them with a flower.
- Collect old towels, tshirts, blankets and donate them to a local animal shelter
- Shovel snow for a neighbor or from the sidewalks around your neighborhood
- Write a thank you note to someone you are grateful for – maybe the librarian at the local library, the mailman, the cashier at the grocery store, the snow plow driver.
ALL PRO DADS WEDNESDAY JANUARY 17. Fathers and father figures are invited to come for a morning program. The topic will be Service. “Service is about helping others – it’s about giving instead of taking. People who serve look for opportunities to make life a little easier for the people around them.” The program starts at 7:45 am (note time) in the gym and there is a fun video and activity that Mr. Wilhite, one of our 5th grade teachers, will lead. Breakfast is provided. RSVP on the Parent Square invitation.
YOU SNOOZE … you win! Getting enough sleep is a win for everyone’s health. 59% of preteens and teens surveyed by Common Sense (Media) reported using their cell phones between midnight and 5:00 am on school nights. Digital citizenship tip of the month is to designate a place for cell phones to go at night so kids do not have phones in their bedrooms disrupting sleep.
LIVING TRADITIONS 2024: This year East Midvale focuses on AFRICA. Grades will study Chad, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Morocco and Kenya to learn about the geography, culture, food, language, sports and occupations. Families are invited to the Living Traditions Family Night on Thursday February 1 to “travel” to each of these countries to learn what our students learned. During brain boosters, art projects will be created and then displayed in the Art Walk and students will learn a game played in Africa. Food and entertainment will be provided that night.
5th GRADE SCIENCE FAIR – Our fifth graders are working diligently on science experiments which they will display for our community at Living Traditions Night.
