2nd Step Social Emotional Learning Tip of the Week!

Reinforce the tips shared last week for emotional management:

  • Stop
  • Name the feelings
  • Calm Down

Parent Tip of the Week:  Using Belly Breathing to Calm Down!

  • Put your hands on your tummy.
  • Focus on your breathing.
  • Breathe in through your nose, making your belly move out.
  • Breathe out through your mouth, letting your tummy move in.

Parent Script at home:  Notice when your child is feeling frustrated.  Say,  “I see you’re having a strong feeling.  Let’s calm down using belly breathing.”   Then practice the technique above.
