PTA FUNDRAISER THIS WEEK- The PTA annual “fun-draiser” is this week April 22-26 culminating in the Fun Run Event on Friday April 26. Students can bring in coins each day to contribute to the fundraiser. Funds raised are used to support teachers, classrooms and events next school year. The class raising the most money gets to silly string both Mr. Nelson and Ms. Pua on Friday!!

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION: On Tuesday April 23, we invite parents and students entering kindergarten in the Fall 2024 to attend an orientation from 5:00-6:00 pm. Come first to the East Midvale gym for a welcome and then our kindergarten teachers will invite new students to visit the classroom for an activity while parents can get needed information in our group presentation.
TEACHER OF THE YEAR recognition – Ms. Fangaafa Fatai Tuifua (known by students as Ms. Fatai) will be recognized as East Midvale’s Teacher of the Year along with one teacher from each of the 46 schools in Canyons. Event is April 23 at Butler Middle, 7530 S. 2700 East with a reception starting at 6:15 p.m and ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. This is free and open to the public.
CONGRATULATIONS also to the following East Midvale teachers who have received recognitions for their excellent work in the classrooms with students: Ms. Mazzella in 3rd grade, Ms. Paton-Bruno in 4th grade, and Ms. Hubbard and Ms. Fatai in 5th grade.
FUN RUN is Friday April 26. Families are invited to come cheer on our students. The event begins at 9:00 am and finishes at 11:00 am. Students will run by grade starting at the south crosswalk, running around the school grounds and finishing at the south playground with water and a snack.
Grades will be called out in the following order: 4th grade, 3rd grade, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and finally 5th grade. Starting at 8:30 am on Friday, the drop off lanes in front of the school will be closed off to vehicle traffic. Parking lots will remain open.
UNION UNITED CULTURE NIGHT – Union Middle School at 615 E. 8000 S. is hosting a Cultural Night on April 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm. There will be performances, food, community organizations and crafts and the community is invited. Union Middle School is part of our Hillcrest Feeder system in Canyons District and many of our 5th graders go to 6th grade in Union Middle instead of Midvale Middle.
NURSE AMY’S TIP OF THE WEEK: Most school-aged children do not need a multivitamin if they are growing at a typical rate and eating a variety of foods. If you are concerned that your child isn’t growing or has a deficiency, talk to your healthcare provider.
DRESS CODE REMINDER: As the weather warms, please remind students to wear clothing that follows our district dress code. Students wearing clothing that distracts others from the learning environment will be asked to change. Follow this link for CSD Dress Code
GET YOUR “MY COUNTY REC PASS” FOR FREE! Students aged 5-18 years old can get a FREE pass to participate in fun, healthy, and safe activities at the county recreation centers after school, on school breaks, on the weekends and during the summer! There are pools, climbing walls, ice rinks, gyms, walking tracks and fitness equipment. Register in person with your student at any participating recreation center. Presenters included Engineers with Boeing and Google Fiber, Youth librarian at Tyler Library, a Nurse and Medical Assistant, Police Officer, Fireman, Utah Highway Patroller and FBI agent, a Ski Patroller in Park City and the Director of the Alta Environmental Center, a Kindergarten teacher and Daycare Worker, a Plumber, Screenwriter, Photographer, UDOT snowplow driver, Karate instructor, Airline parts manager, Maverick Head Manager, Pharmacist, and Entrepreneurs. There were so many different occupations for our students to learn about. What a great day!
