Parent Update Week of April 15-19, 2024

HAPPENINGS at EME – Last week was event filled at East Midvale.

  • On Monday, Stand4Kind brought a message of kindness and antibullying at a schoolwide assembly.  Mr. Lance Allred, a former NBA player and current motivational speaker and dad, spoke about perseverance, accountability, resilience and standing up for oneself and others.  The band Pool House rocked our house with their music and their message.  The band leader told students about being the new kid at school, sitting alone at lunch and having two kids come say hi and sit with him.  Those same kids are now his current bandmates.  One act of kindness can change a world!
  • Utah Shakespeare Festival celebrates 30 years of its Shakespeare-in-the-Schools program by bringing a traveling production of Hamlet to Utah elementary schools including ours.  Third and fourth grade students experienced the incredible staging, engaging actors and the story of Hamlet in our very own EME gym.
  • Congratulations to Ms. Mazzella, our amazing third grade teacher.  A student in her class nominated  her and she was awarded the Teacher of the Year at SunTec Concrete.  SunTec Concrete showered her with all her wish list items to enhance her classroom.  We are so proud of you Ms. Mazzella.

NURSE AMY’S TIP OF THE WEEK:  Did you know conjunctivitis (pink eye) can be caused by bacteria, viruses or allergies? If your child has pink, red itchy, watery or painful eyes, with or without discharge, it is recommended that you see your healthcare provider for further guidance. Most children with pinkeye get better after 5-6 days without antibiotics. Your student will not be excluded from school unless they are unable to participate in school activities. Always encourage to wash their hands carefully as this is the best way to prevent conjunctivitis!

DRESS CODE REMINDER:  As the weather warms, please remind students to wear clothing that follows our district dress code.  Students wearing clothing that distracts others from the learning environment will be asked to change.  Follow this link for CSD Dress Code
