Parent Update Week of Jan. 27-31, 2025

ACTIVITIES TO NOTE THIS WEEK:

  • Wed Jan. 29 from 2:00-4:00 pm – Kindergarten Readiness Event at Copperview Recreation Center, 8446 Harrison Avenue, Midvale.  Parents can bring their child to the event to learn about kindergarten in Canyons.

  • Wed. Jan. 29 – Welcome to the Chinese New Year – the year of the snake.  Shed the old and embrace the new!

  • Thurs. Jan. 30 Canyons Canyoneering Event at Hillcrest High starting at 5:00 pm with dinner then at 6:20 pm attend any of three sessions on these topics:  digital and school safety, suicide prevention, artificial intelligence, drug use and vaping.  

STUDENT OF THE MONTH ASSEMBLY:  Two students in each class, one teacher and one staff member who exemplify Self Management will be recognized at our assembly on Friday January 31!

EME TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS!  Here is your opportunity to celebrate your child’s teacher for the work they do in the classroom, for the time they take with your child to teach and nurture and for the time they take to work with your family to build a strong learning plan.  Nominate that teacher using this form:  2025 TOTY Nomination or use the one sent in the Parent Square post from Mr. Nelson.  Submit by 5:00 pm on February 2.

UFB FREE GROCERIES:  Distribution to students will be on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at the end of the school day.  If possible, please plan to pick up your student or meet them at the bus stop to carry the 20 pounds of food given.  

LIVING TRADITIONS WEEK – Next week is our annual living traditions celebration.  Our focus region this year is Europe and students will be exploring France, Ireland, Iceland, Albania, Greece and Switzerland.  Families are invited to come to our Living Traditions night on Thursday February 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.  Wasatch Alphorn group will be doing 2 performances in the gym highlighting horns used in the Alps of Europe.  There will be an art walk in the cafeteria.  Each grade will present their projects on their countries along with a food sampling from that country.  Get your Living Traditions passport, check in and travel to Europe – within our school walls! 

OPENINGS IN THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM!  The extended learning program has several additional spots to fill.  

  • Attendance is everyday Monday-Thursday from 3:00-4:55 pm and Friday: 1:10-4:55pm.

  • Students receive a snack and dinner.

  • Bus transportation is provided if a student already rides a bus to/from school.

  • Fill out an interest form in the front office

  • School will notify parent whether the student has been accepted and when they will begin.   

SAVE THE DATES FOR PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES:

  • Monday February 24 from 4:00-8:00 pm

  • Wednesday February 26 from 4:00-8:00 pm

BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION:  Remember to scan those receipts to add to East Midvale’s total!  Funds used to supplement supplies in our Arts enrichment classes.
