- Boundary Discussion led by Mr. Leon Wilcox, Business Administrator and CFO of Canyons School District & Floyd Stensrud, Canyons School District’s Director of Planning and Enrollment
- 2013 there was a shift where 6th grade went up to Middle school
- This year we want to do a shift in boundaries throughout Canyons school district.
- The goal is to keep neighborhoods together, accommodate new students, maintain class sizes, continue academic momentum at Midvale and Copperview and maximize the use of school buildings.
- Final Proposals February to April
- 23-24 Implementation year
- 3 options on Boundary changes
- Option 1: Midvale Elem Boundary- Dropping what is north of 7500 S. and some of Midvale Elementary boundary to EME. Midvalley would get some of Copperview Elementary students.
- Option 2: Midvale would increase and East Midvale will decrease – One issue for Midvale Elementary is the increase in #
- Option 3: East Midvale will have about the same number of students as its current state. They would give away only a piece of their boundary (avenues of Midvale)to Midvale Elementary
- Overarching programs need some balance. We are taking into account capacity but the main part is trying to make room for new families, etc.
- Council is loving Option 3 so far.. 3 makes the most sense. Midvale and Midvalley also like Option 3
- How do you weigh the decision between the 3 options if parents say something different from the SCC? Mark relays the message that the SCC opinion is VERY important
- Open house and feedback for EME January 27
- Motion and vote on January SCC meeting date change to January 5, 2022
- Motion accepted and we will have our next meeting on January 5th
