PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE COMING UP! This is an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, discuss how they are doing and to build a plan for growth, progress and success! Please look for a Parent Square sign up from your child’s teacher. Conferences are scheduled for Monday September 23 and Wednesday September 25 from 3:30-8:00 pm. Each conference is scheduled for 15 minutes. Interpreters for Spanish and Arabic will be available both nights of conferences.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 17 – LOCKDOWN DRILL – Every month, the school will do a different safety drill to help our students know procedures in case of a real emergency. September 17 is a lockdown drill at 9:50 am. Students and teachers stay in classrooms and practice “Lock. Lights. Out of Sight”. That means locking doors, turning off lights and being out of sight for the 5 minutes of the drill.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 18 ALL PRO DADS! Fathers and father figures are invited to bring their students to a breakfast gathering at 7:45 am in the gym. Mr. Wilhite will talk about being proactive. Please RSVP on the Parent Square invitation so we can plan accordingly. RSVP Here
FRIDAY STUDENT OF THE MONTH ASSEMBLY – On Friday September 20 (note date change from calendar), please send your student to school wearing their SOAR t-shirts. In a morning assembly, two students in each class as well as a teacher and a support staff will be recognized for being awesome at the S.O.A.R. expectation of Self Management.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: During the week of Parent Teacher Conferences, the book fair will be set up in the library with set times for shopping. Every book sale contributes money that is used to buy new books for classrooms and teachers.
PARENT VISITORS TO EAST MIDVALE: All parents and adults who want to enter the school building need to do so through the front office and get a visitor badge. This includes parents dropping their students off in the morning for breakfast. This policy ensures student and staff safety.
PARENT CLASSES TO LEARN ENGLISH: Our Family Learning Center will begin English classes on Monday September 9. Parents wanting to learn English are invited to attend classes Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Kenia Bush is the FLC director and teacher. PTA NEWS:
- REFLECTIONS ART CONTEST – The national PTA runs an Art contest every year in the fall. Students in all grade levels are invited to submit a piece of Art using the theme “Embracing Imperfections”. This can be 2D or 3D art, a written piece, a photograph, or a dance video. Submissions count towards Soaring Eagle awards that are given in each classroom. East Midvale’s winners go on to compete at the regional and then state level.
- PTA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
- A meal is being provided by the PTA for teachers on Monday September 23 during PTC. Look for the sign up to bring items to contribute to the meal or give time to set up/clean up.
- Scholastic Book Fair is run by the PTA and there are still volunteer slots to be filled. If you volunteer you get a $5.00 coupon towards a book purchase.

SALTA APPLICATIONS: The application window for Specialized Classes for Advanced Learners is open now until October 4. If your child exhibits intense curiosity and focus, a rapid learning pace, exceptional memory, high levels of creativity and advanced language skills, consider having them tested for this magnet program within Canyons District. Talk to your student’s teacher or Mr. Nelson.
