Parent Update Week of May 6-10, 2024

HAPPY CINCO de MAYO!  Enjoy the celebrations!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK MAY 6-10:  This is the week to really let teachers know how much you appreciate all the work they do to build classroom communities and teach our students.  Look for the Parent Square post specific to your child’s classroom for details for Spirit Week.

  • Monday May 6 – “Teachers Color our World.”  Wear your teacher’s favorite color
  • Tuesday May 7 – “Teachers Help Us Bloom.”  Bring a flower or draw a flower for your teacher.
  • Wednesday May 8 – “Teachers are Positively Awesome”.  Bring a positive note to your teacher.
  • Thursday May 9 – “Hats On” for our teachers.  Wear a hat!
  • Friday May 10 – “Teachers lift us and help us SOAR”.  Bring your teacher’s favorite treat or drink.  Wear SOAR t-shirts for the Fun Run!

FRESH PRODUCE MARKET TUESDAY!  Our spring produce market is back on Tuesdays through May 21.  A bag of fresh produce is available to families at no cost.  Parents can pick up a bag at 2:30 pm in front of the school.  Special addition to the May market is Einstein’s Bagels.  Thank you to Einstein’s!  Supplies are limited.

FUN RUN is Friday MAY 10.  Families are invited to come cheer on our students.    The event begins at 9:00 am and finishes at 11:00 am.  Students will run by grade starting at the south crosswalk, running around the school grounds and finishing at the south playground with water and a snack.  Grades will be called out in the following order:  4th grade, 3rd grade, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and finally 5th grade.  Starting at 8:30 am on Friday, the drop off lanes in front of the school will be closed off to vehicle traffic.  Parking lots will remain open.
MRS. JARDINE’S RETIREMENT OPEN HOUSE:  After 22 years at East Midvale, Ms. Jardine is retiring and looking forward to the next chapter teaching and playing with her grandkids.  Please come by the East Midvale library between 2:00-4:00 pm on Friday May 10 to wish her well and share fond memories!  If you have any pictures of Ms. Jardine and your child over the years, please text them to Ms. McCall at 801 598 4568.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MAY EVENTS:  There are lots of big events (Fun Run, Field Days, Parties) that need extra hands and support.  Please sign up to volunteer if you are able.  May Volunteer Sign Up

  • May 27 – No School for Memorial Day
  • May 28 – All School Field Days
  • May 30 – Last Day of School – Dance Party / Early dismissal 12:10 pm


NURSE AMY’S TIP OF THE WEEK: 
Be smart about car seats!  Children should ride rear-facing until at least two years of age and 30 pounds, or longer if the car seat allows. Children can ride forward-facing with a harness until at least four years of age and 40 pounds, or longer if the car seat allows. Children who are at least four years of age and 40 pounds can ride in a booster seat. Use the booster seat until the seat belt fits correctly and until the child is 4’9”.  All children under 13 years old should ride in the back seat.  Always buckle up to stay safe and set a good example..

DRESS CODE REMINDER:  As the weather warms, please remind students to wear clothing that follows our district dress code.  Students wearing clothing that distracts others from the learning environment will be asked to change.  Follow this link for CSD Dress Code

GET YOUR “MY COUNTY REC PASS” FOR FREE!  Students aged 5-18 years old can get a FREE pass to participate in fun, healthy, and safe activities at the county recreation centers after school, on school breaks, on the weekends and during the summer!  There are pools, climbing walls, ice rinks, gyms, walking tracks and fitness equipment.  Register in person with your student at any participating recreation center.  Passes will be activated on June 1.      Click Here for More Information
