In case you missed it or if you want to re-live it, below is a recap of our Living Traditions focus on Oceania and the Northern Pole. Thank you to our community for showing up to celebrate culture and to learn about the Marshall Islands, Tonga and Samoa, Finland, Sweden and Greenland.
Families who attended answered questions in their travel “passport” by reading the information and graphics provided on the wall displays throughout the school. All the projects were done by students.
Everyone had an opportunity to taste test Swedish meatballs, ginger snaps, dried coconut, Mango Pineapple Otai, rye bread and lingonberry jelly, dried meat jerky, and panipopo (coconut buns) from local Sagato’s.
Special guests entertained and taught us with Tongan drums and dances that tell stories with hand, feet and body movements. Thank you to Ms. Fatai for leading this, to Ele Pua and Meera Birima and drummer Siosifa Uesi!
In the gym, music from our focus countries played while families viewed art projects that decorated the walls. Viewing included Dala horses from Sweden (K), Sealife in the Marshall Islands (1st), Tongan fans (2nd), aurora borealis chalkings (3), Ice Castles in Greenland (4th) and Samoan Tataus (5th).
