April 5-10, 2026 Parent Update

There were so many things happening this past week to end the month of March and begin April.  Congratulations to our students and scholars of the month – March was for Acceptance.  Congratulations to volunteer of the month PTA President Starr Russell, Staff of the Month Sally Murphy and Teacher of the month Mr. Rob Carter – all for Acceptance.

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year!  Fourth grade teacher Madeline Williams was chosen from submissions made by our community.  She will represent East Midvale Elementary as Canyons District chooses its Teacher of the Year 2026!  East Midvale has an amazing faculty and every one of our teachers received at least one nomination from our community!  Hop hop hurray!

We hope all our families enjoy time together during the spring break.  Happy Easter.

Highlights from the monthly SOAR assembly included the DOJO store challenge!  Students buy into a teacher experience and this month – Mr. Wilhite, Ms. Strate and Ms. Meera bravely endured an ice bath on stage.  First person to answer 2 trivia questions about Mario Cart was able to get out of the ice water!  Mr. Wilhite knows his trivia and was the first to exit!  Then Ms. Strate and finally, very cold Ms. Meera!

Hawkwatch International visited East Midvale on Wednesday.  “Callie” the Bald Eagle seemed unphased by the inquiries and attention from 350 students.  Hawkwatch gave information about eagles and as the students exited, they were able to look closely at a skull, feathers, and talons of an eagle.  Also on the table was a jug that weighed 13 pounds which is the weight of a grown bald eagle.

This assembly was a reward for the whole school achieving 500,000 Dojo points!

Classic Skate Night was a huge hit again this spring.  Our community showed up to skate, scooter, climb, eat and socialize.  Thank you to the our PTA for organizing this event with free admission for us all to enjoy!

Although the school year is closing out, the PTA is still trying to maximize its membership.  For $8.00 you can join the East Midvale PTA and show that you support them.  Here is the link:  https://eastmidvalepta.givebacks.com/shop/items/59909

Vocal Dimension with ARTS, Inc. brought a high energy group of performers called “Opera Works!” to East Midvale.

A mixed vocal quartet with piano accompanist presented an entertaining introduction to the world of Opera.  Students learned the history, the voice parts, and various elements of Opera.  They enjoyed the “light” side of Opera as they, themselves, become the costume artists, set crew, and sang in the Opera chorus of a delightful version of the “Three Little Pigs.”

Opera Works proved that opera really can be fun!

Our mini spirit day last week brought out Mammoth, Real and Jazz fans!
