On Tuesday, our East Midvale fifth graders had their opportunity to run the Junior Achievement Biztown. Since returning from winter break, teachers and students have been learning the financial literacy lessons provided by Junior Achievement, assigning businesses and jobs for each student and generally preparing to take full advantage of this amazing opportunity.
Students operate banks, businesses, and city government, taking on roles like CEO or CFO to manage finances, earn wages, and pay back business loans, connecting schoolwork to real-world financial literacy, teamwork, and civic responsibility.
Every student had their own checking accounts. They had a job that paid a salary that was deposited into the checking account. They needed to pay essentials and had the opportunity to purchase wants and make donations. Great job taking on this “real world” learning.
