Parent Update Week of November 4-8, 2024

Halloween at East Midvale was magical!  It was so fun to have so many parents and families attend the parade and volunteer at parties.   We hope that all the celebrations over this weekend, including Dia de Los Muertos and Diwali, were festive.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 5 FREE GROCERIES from Utah Food Bank:  Food bags given out at the end of the school day in the cafeteria.  Students can pick up the bag of food and parents can meet their students outside the north gym door or at the bus stop to help carry the twenty pounds of food.  Kindergarten students who are the oldest at East Midvale will receive a bag at the end of red hall and 1st graders at the end of purple hall.  

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 6 PTA FAMILY SKATE NIGHT 5:00 – 8:30 pm:  Admission to Classic Skate (at 9151 South 255 West in Sandy) is free for all East Midvale community members.  Bring your own skates, rollerblades, or scooters or you can rent a pair for $3.00.  An unlimited games bracelet is $10.00.  Join your friends for fun and meet new friends in our community.  

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8 VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY:  On Friday our fifth grade teachers and students will present an assembly to our student body to honor the service and sacrifices of veterans.  Pictures submitted from our school community of family members who are serving or served in the military will be part of a slideshow.

NOVEMBER 11-15 – RED RIBBON WEEK:  The PTA at East Midvale presents Red Ribbon Week with the national theme:  “Life is a Movie: Film Drug Free”.  Each day is a different theme and we invite all students to participate and show support for substance free living!

  • Monday – Wear Red (white and blue) – “Proud to live in America and be drug free”
  • Tuesday – Wear something “Inside Out” – “Turning inside out to stay drug-free”
  • Wednesday – Bring or wear a Disney or Marvel item – “Believe in magic – not drugs”
  • Thursday – Wear jersey/hat from your favorite team – “Team up against drugs”
  • Friday – Wear SOAR t shirt – “Eagles SOAR by resisting drugs”

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 13 ALL PRO DADS:  Fathers and father figures are invited to bring their students to a breakfast gathering at 7:45 am.  Mr. Wilhite will show a fun video and have discussion questions and an activity about EMPATHY. Look for the Parent Square invitation to RSVP

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 14 PTA MOVIE NIGHT from 5:30-6:30 pm:  Bring the family to enjoy a short movie and popcorn.  Bring blankets or low rider chairs to watch. 

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 15 TURKEY TROT:  Our annual tradition is happening on Fri. Nov. 15 starting at 9:00 am.  Parents are welcomed to volunteer and to come cheer on students!  Each grade will run a course on the west side of the school.  Grades will run in this order:

  • 9:00 am 5th grade and 4th grade then prizes awarded
  • 3rd grade and Kindergarten then prizes awarded
  • 1st grade and 2nd grade then prizes awarded

The event will be finished by 11:10 am. First place boy and girl in each grade wins a turkey, 2nd places win pies and 3rd places win a gallon of apple cider!   Thank you to Zions Bancorp for sponsoring the prizes.  Please send students to school in appropriate shoes and clothing to run in the cold weather.

Adult Visitors to East Midvale:  
All parents and adults who want to enter the school building need to do so through the front office and get a visitor badge.  This includes parents dropping their students off in the morning for breakfast.   This policy ensures student and staff safety.

Student Check Out at day’s end:  Parents and guardians are asked to check students out of school for appointments before 2:30 pm Mon-Thurs and before 12:40 pm on Friday.  There are many things happening at the end of the school day and the front office is unable to call your student for checkout after those times.

 

Parent Student Communications during the school day:  If you need to get in touch with your student or they need to get in touch with you, please call the front office.  Office staff will get your student a message.  The student will be directed to call you from the front office as well.  Cell phones/watches should be in school mode during school hours.

Free WIFI and INTERNET – Canyons District continues to provide free internet for families through Comcast Internet Essentials.  To enroll, reply to this post or call Mrs. McCall at East Midvale at 801 826 8406.  Ask for a Comcast Code.  Then call Comcast at 1-844-963 0178 with the code.
